Artificial Intelligence makes scientific discoveries overlooked by humans.

Researchers from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have trained AI known as Word2Vec to scan through scientific papers and target any "latent knowledge" that has been overlooked by humans. In an article published on July 3 in Nature, Word2Vec discovered new thermoelectric materials that could be used to convert heat into energy.

Researcher Anubhav Jain sheds some light on the process used by the AI to make these discoveries: "It can read any paper on material science, so can make connections that no scientists could, sometimes it does what a researcher would do; other times it makes these cross-discipline associations."

The lead author for the study said, "This algorithm is unsupervised, and it builds its own connections."
