California moving forward with “Cradle to Career Data System”.
With a headline right out of George Orwell's 1984, California has sourced the $10,000,000 needed to begin their latest data collecting program. They are calling it the "Cradle to Career Data System," where they'll be able to identify every individual by "race, ethnicity, region, gender, military status, parents' education and age." What are they doing with this information you ask, Governor Gavin Newsome's Office of Planning and Research will be tracking "the impact of early education on student success and achievement as a student progresses through education segments and the workforce." Now you ask yourself; why are they collecting this information, to "provide appropriate interventions and supports to address disparities in opportunities and improve outcomes for all students."
To quote the late President Ronald Regan, "The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
