Human Compost in Washington
Katina Spade, the founder, and CEO of Recompose has found a new use for human bodies. Their website states: "our service - recomposition - gently converts human remains into soil, so that we can nourish new life after we die."
Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a bill making it legal for licensed facilities to offer "natural organic reduction," which turns a body, mixed with substances such as wood chips and straw, into the soil in just several weeks.
This practice has been legal in Sweden since 2005, where they freeze dry the body and then vibrate it until it breaks into a fine powder.
